Retail & Gift Shops

With both charming, independent retailers and bigger retail outlets, whether you’re looking to treat yourself or someone else, you’ll find the perfect present…

Towns and villages have a wealth of unique, independent shops selling all manner of local, high quality goods, such as fine malts, crafts, sweets, jewellery and artwork. To complement these are the larger retail outlets offering a wide choice of quality local and mainstream labels.

Want a truly unique 'Cairngorms' gift to remind you of your stay, or to bring back as a gift?

This is a popular request from visitors, who often want to buy a souvenir locally produced here. And there are so many options!

Like a bottle of local whisky or gin, for example. Some bottles, in themselves, are treasures to keep, such as those from Kinrara Distillery which are adorned with artwork, too, or a handcrafted sporran from Lamont Sporrans in Braemar.

Remember that many of the local attractions - like art galleries, museums, castles, the Speyside Centre and Landmark Forest Adventure Park - have their own shops on site full of Cairngorms-unique gifts.

Or, if it's local foodie delicacies you're after then there are plenty of wonderful farm shops, delis and butchers.

For cheese lovers, there's the Cheese Neuk in Kingussie, for sweet lovers Mr Simms in Aviemore and for fish there's Pro fish, also in Aviemore. If it's unique Scottish jewellery you're after, The Highlander in Braemar is definitely worth a visit. Ballater is home to H.M Sheridan, an award winning specialist butcher which holds the Royal Warrant.

For a huge array under one roof, Rothiemurchus Farm Shop sells all types of local produce including meats, fish and alcohol but also sweet treats, tea, oatcakes, condiments, jewellery, homeware and a card to accompany your perfect gift!

Spey Valley Shopping at Macdonald Aviemore Resort, too, has a large range of different gifts, many locally sourced, with a clothing range as well.

FAQs:

Where is the best place to shop in the Cairngorms National Park?

It depends what you’re wanting to buy. If you are after outdoor gear, then Aviemore is your best bet with its huge range of specialist shops and expert staff. However, if you’re after gifts then the towns and villages throughout the Park boast a wealth of small independent retailers offering Scottish, and often local, goods.

We'd like to support local shops. Are there many independent retailers?

Yes! There are many fantastic local retailers often selling Scottish, and local, goods. Throughout the year there are also market stall events where independent retailers gather to sell their goods, such as Christmas markets (check the event listings for details).

We'd like to buy a 'Scottish' gift to go home with. Any suggestions?

Yes! There are many places to buy traditional Scottish gifts such as whisky, gin, local produce (such as venison, cheese and salmon produced in the Cairngorms), tartan (Lamont Sporrans in Braemar has an excellent reputation) and landscape art work by a local artist or photographer. Check out our listings for plenty of inspiration.
