This picture-perfect little red-roofed cottage has been beautifully restored as a cosy forest hideaway in the heart of Rothiemurchus.
The refurbishment was carried out by the same team who restored Loch an Eilein Cottage so beautifully in 2016. The interiors reflect both the warm earthy colours of the forest and the vintage, natural fabrics and simple, solid furnishings that have all been part of this lovely little cottage over the centuries.
A traditional wooden porch leads into the double height living room, with its window seat, handsome stone hearth and wood burning stove, sure to warm you up after a day of adventures on the hills or lochs. Behind this lies the kitchen, fitted with all the luxury appliances you could wish for in modern self-catering accommodation - and some you wouldn't, like its wonderful little wine fridge.
Also on the ground floor is the beautiful master bedroom with its super-king bed, leading through to a luxury bathroom. In here is a rainshower, whirlpool bath and even a cleverly hidden flat screen TV, for a little touch of decadence amongst the simplicity of the woodland surroundings. And although the cottage is perfectly made for two, any extra guests or children can make use of the twin beds in the cosy little attic bedroom.
For all its feeling of remote seclusion, you can reach the centre of Aviemore on foot (30 minutes) or by bike (15 minutes) via quiet forest tracks, past herds of deer and breath-taking views across forested valleys. In fact Rothiemurchus sits in the perfect Highlands location - ideally sited between the town of Aviemore and the wild beauty of the Cairngorms National Park.
