Wildlife Watching in the Cairngorms National Park

The National Park is a hotspot for British wildlife and is home to 25 per cent of Britain's threatened species. The high mountains, ancient forests, fields and moorlands are nationally and internationally important. There are wildcats, capercaillie, squirrels and pine martens in the woods, ospreys fishing the lochs and deer, badgers and golden eagles to be seen too.

Inspired by programmes such as BBC's Springwatch? Get out and see some wildlife for yourself - even in your own back garden - you can either keep your eyes peeled for darting red squirrels and soaring ospreys or you can go with a guide or watch from a hide - the choice is yours! From more on how to join an organised wildlife watching activity see the business listings below.

Of the many animals Simon King and the BBC team came into contact with, the red squirrel is one you're quite likely to see and if you do, let the Red Squirrels of the Highlands team know!
