A grand former hunting lodge of the Duke of Fyfe and great favourite of Victorian and Edwardian royalty, Mar Lodge is at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park: the estate incorporates 4 of the 5 highest mountains in Britain, an enormous expanse of untouched wilderness with some of the finest walking, climbing, fishing and stalking to be found anywhere.
Mar Lodge makes an ideal base for visitors wishing to explore, with five beautifully appointed self-catering apartments, and bunkhouse accommodation in the Base Camp. Two luxurious and gorgeously situated cottages, Claybokie and Creag Bhalg are also available for holiday lets.
Claybokie, Creag Bhalg and the apartments in the Lodge are available either over the weekend (between Friday evening and Monday morning) or over the week (between Monday evening and Friday morning), and can be let individually or together for a large group getaway.
The Mar Lodge Base Camp sleeps 12, at £15 per person per night (minimum charge £70 per night for smaller groups of six and under), and forms part of the former Stable Block. There are four bedrooms: two four-bedded, one two-bedded (all bunk beds), and one room suitable for disabled visitors (two single beds) which has an en-suite toilet and shower. All accommodation is wheelchair accessible. There is also a fully-equipped kitchen, sitting room, dining room, drying room, showers, toilets and oil-fired central heating.
