Yurt Building Workshop, 5th September 09 Inshriach House, By Aviemore

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Paul Millard from Red Kite Yurts visited Inshriach House last weekend, if ever there was a proficient camper he is it, arriving with a nest of Persian rugs and cushions and a gem of an 8ft yurt enveloped by burgundy canvas and beautiful oak spars. To start there will be a workshop at Inshriach on 5th September covering the basics, a bit of a history lesson, all probably washed down with an ale or two. There are 12 places and they are £75 a head for the day and the workshop will cover aspects of nomadic culture and traditions of Central Asia, and the following;

* How to assemble and dismantle a yurt
* How to steam bend the components and prepare a crown.
* Everything required to build a Turkic yurt including assistance with the canvas cover.

The Onsider Fringe Festival, Aviemore, 27th June

SATURDAY 27TH JUNE 2009

http://www.visitcairngorms.com/onsider.html

Thanks to Aviemore Business Association the sound of music will still be heard in Aviemore over the weekend 27th June. Local businesses have contributed funds to ensure that visitors remaining loyal to Aviemore, following on from the cancellation of the Outsider, will still be indulged in a eclectic mix of music in every bar at night and on the village green during the day.

A call for help sent out over social networking sites and local support has enlisted a mix of music genres for all to enjoy, from the dulcet tones of jazz duo Blue Horizon hailing from Nairn, to the twins Nicola and Corin, awesome fiddlers/singers/flautists from Melbourne Australia, Aviemore is preparing for a feast of music. Sid Innes singer/songwriter and his band Shall from Aberdeen said we’d love to head over …we’ve heard Aviemore is fast becoming the music bed of the North. Country rock band Southpaw from Perth prepare to deliver an irresistible mix of country and rock n’ roll originals and all time classics that will soften your soul as they gig on the green.

Locally formed band El-34s will rock the bars with well loved old time favourite rock tunes and hits from the 60’s and 70’s and there are some in Aviemore that can remember these. Favourite local musician Gilly will be playing a riff or two and the late night venues will be offering disco and dance to those who can stand the pace. Take your mp3 to RD’s for a late night Silent Disco session …what in Aviemore? The dynamic duo Graham Mackay from Inverness teams up with local fiddler Duncan Farquhar to present a fast and furious fest of music to make you reel.

Finally not sweet enough then a call for support has brought forward an amazing line up of Scotland’s greatest musicians who are playing on the village green in what will be an explosion of ceilidh rock. Shooglenifty have come to the rescue playing their energised, contemporary roots material a fiery and infectious blend of Celtic traditional music and dance grooves. A supremely dexterous and witty live band, their energetic live performances have kept them in constant demand around the world and of course Aviemore. We are grateful to Alex Findlay for his support and to the band for appearing at such short notice.

 An experience not be missed and all this for free and so people,  Aviemore has come good in the face of adversity  so tune your voices in fine feckle, dig out your dancin’ boots and check out the who’s who in that line up!  And remember who cared enough to bring you all this………. Aviemore Business Association.
