Iron Cross

The snow is still there but there is warmth in the sun so it is a great time to get in some last minute skiing.  Cairngorm Mountain are running Freestyle Sessions from the 9th-11th April.  Angus Leith hosts this great opportunity with a team of experts for skiers and snowboarders in the relaxed environment of the Vans Terrain Park at the Ptarmigan. There will be prizes, music, a BBQ and video analysis.  All skiing and snowboarding freestylers are welcome but prior regestration is required.  Contact Donald@snowsportscotland.org for more information.

toplogowalking-festivalThe Aviemore and Cairngorms walking and mountain festival returns for another year from the 9th to the 16th of May with many old favourites and some new walks too.  Their will also be many activities on offer throughout the area as well including mountain biking, kayaking, white water rafting, climbing, canyoning, and much more.  There will also be evening events such as mountain related talks, films, Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team open night, a ceilidh supper and a chance to experience some great Highland Hospitality.

Cairngorm Brewery's Black Gold Beer

An Aviemore brewery is celebrating after receiving a national accolade with their Scottish style stout, Black Gold.

A week after winning their CAMRA region “Beer of the Year” with Black Gold, the Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore won “Supreme Champion Beer of the Year” at the SIBA (Society of Independent Breweries) Annual conference in Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday the 6th of March.

Against 55 finalist Beers from 7 national regions, the prestigious award recognised the Aviemore based firms’ dedication to producing quality beers, using well-established brewing methods and traditional recipes.

Congratulations to the Cross at Kingussie who won the “Scottish Restaurant with Rooms of the Year” 2009 at the Scottish Hotel Awards in Glasgow.
This is the second time owners David and Katie Young have won the award having won it back in 2004.

There has been a fall of snow overnight with drifting in places…Cairngorm Mountain is white again!  The piste bashers are out in force to piste out large drifts.  Runs have improved considerably overnight!

The British Army Championships are taking place on Cairngorm all week so look out for the racers.
Half term is over so the crowds have dispersed making this weekend a great time for a last minute break to Aviemore or one of the surrounding villages for a winter wonderland experience.  Snow is forecast for the next 5 days with sunny spells in between.  Check out www.visitcairngorms.com for accommodation options.
