A cross between a Highland Games and a Country Fair with pipe band, traditional music and countryside pursuits. The Fling will feature live music from the talented youngsters on the Cairngorms Ceilidh Trail and in the afternoon, visitors will be entertained by the Blairgowrie Pipe Band. And you’ll be able to brush up your dancing and learn some new steps with the local Castleton Dancers
Bring you dog along either for the dog show, prizes for the best dressed dog and owner! Or to have a go at traditional terrier racing. Dusty, the black Wenselydale sheep with personality, will be sheared (twice! one side at different times!) in the traditional way on the day. Rescued owls and raptors from 2Wit2Woo at Huntly will also be on show. A firm favourite with the children, Braemar’s local miniature train complete with miniature engine and sit-on carriages, will transport children and adults round the grounds. There will also be plenty other activities for youngsters to get involved in including races and welly wanging. You can even try some sword fighting with a real live Jacobite or get all wound up in a “proper” plaid kilt.
And bikers from the British Legion Riders Branch will be encouraging you to admire and sit astride their gleaming motorbikes, so something to entertain all ages and interests. There will also be refreshments on sale but you’re also welcome to bring a picnic and a rug and enjoy a great day out, hopefully under cloudless skies!
